National election roadmap approved, announcement likely tomorrow
This was reported by BSS, quoting Election Commissioner Anwarul Islam Sarkar. Anwarul Islam said, “Everything in the roadmap has been finalized. It has been approved, now only typing is going on.”
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin, four election commissioners and the EC secretary held a meeting on this at the Election Commission building in Agargaon in the capital on Wednesday afternoon. Anwarul Islam then informed reporters about this. Meanwhile, Senior Secretary of the Election Commission Secretariat Akhtar Ahmed has hinted that the roadmap for the national elections may be published tomorrow, Thursday. He said, there will be no more delay in publishing the roadmap – it may be possible to publish it tomorrow.
Akhtar Ahmed said this in response to a question from reporters after the hearing on the redrawn boundaries of parliamentary constituencies this afternoon.
In response to a question about when the election roadmap might be announced, Akhtar Ahmed, Senior Secretary of the Election Commission Secretariat, said, “We are currently working on some more work and I think we may get a chance to give you some additional information tomorrow. Wait until then.”
Is the election roadmap being announced? In response to such a question, Akhtar Ahmed said, “It is probably on my table now. Don’t wait until tomorrow. Will it take too much for one day?”
On the first day of the hearing on the re-delimitation of the National Assembly, a fight broke out at the Election Commission over Brahmanbaria-2 and 3 constituencies. If such a fight breaks out at the Election Commission, what can happen at the polling station on the day of the election and why has no action been taken against anyone so far in this fight? Akhtar Ahmed was asked this question. In response, he said, “This is not directly related to the Election Commission. If you are pushing me outside now, for some reason, the organization cannot be held responsible there. We have filed a general diary with the police in this regard. In which we have given the police the responsibility; we have told the police that you will take necessary action in this regard. I think that is all I should say.’
In response to a question about the Election Commission confiscating the passports of some people, the senior secretary said, ‘I have also heard such a news that we have confiscated the passports of some people. In fact, we do not have the authority to confiscate passports and we did not do this.’
Akhtar Ahmed said that in the last four days, hearings were held on the re-demarcation of 84 seats in 33 districts. In this, 1,185 objections and 708 recommendations were submitted. The total number of objections and recommendations is 1,893.
On August 24, 18 seats in 6 districts, on August 25, 20 seats in 9 districts, on August 26, 28 seats in 6 districts, and today, on August 27, 18 seats in 12 districts were heard on the re-demarcation of 12 seats.
